ERRA National 12 and 6 Stage Relays – Saturday 8th April – Sutton Park
Having qualified in 20th place at the Northern Men’s 12 Stage relays 2 weeks before, team captain Chris Ireland managed to pull together 12 men for the National Men’s 12 Stage Relays at Sutton Park last Saturday. The availability of runners for the relays was slightly hampered with Sheffield Half Marathon taking place the day after, so massive thanks to everyone who committed and especially those who ran both races. Mike Tanner set the team off at 12-noon, although it was a long wait for Chris Moss (12th runner) who finally got to run at the mass start at 4:15pm. Sheffield RC came 45th out of 63 complete teams.
Clare Thompson also managed to find 6 women for the women’s race, which included Clare herself running. Special mention to Debs Platts-Fowler who ran her last race for Sheffield RC on English soil before her and Joe’s big adventure. Sheffield RC came 34th out of 46 complete teams.
Fantastic running from everyone on what turned out to be a very warm day!
Sheffield Half Marathon – Sunday 9th April 2017
The Run for All Yorkshire Half Marathon may have seen fewer SRC runners than previous years (something to do with spiralling costs, perhaps?) but over 20 members of SRC still managed to complete the half marathon with its now infamous hills on one of the hottest days of the year so far. There were many outstanding performances and PBs, but in summary: Joe Sweetnam-Powell came 3rd overall, Sarah Lowery was 1st female, and Zaheer Mahmood and Gemma Williamson both completed their first half marathons. Apologies to anyone not on the results, I (Alexa) only picked up the runners registered under SRC or those who I know ran.
