October Race Roundup
1st October saw the first ever Scavenger Hunt, which took place from Bole Hill Park in Crookes; thanks to Neal Matthews for organising.
12 runners took part in the 16th edition of SRC’s timed mile trials, which saw 4 PBs.
Sarah Gilbert knocked an impressive 1hr 15mins from her marathon PB at Warsaw Marathon.
Sian Dickinson nearly matched her by knocking off 1hr 20mins from her marathon PB at York Marathon. Chris Roebuck also ran his first marathon here in 4:30.
Sarah Lowery won Chester Marathon in another PB of 2:44:27, winning the BMAF Marathon Championships along the way.
Mukhtar Mohammed commenced his coaching career by completing his Coaching Assistant course at EIS.
The first South Yorkshire Cross Country took place at an undulating Longley Park, with 21 men and women taking part. Samya Armoush was SRC’s first lady in 16th place, with Mike Tanner 2nd overall and first SRC male home.
Gareth Irvine took 2nd veteran male at Run For Wildlife 5k.
SRC hosted yet another successful Northern Athletics Cross Country Relay Championships (incorporating the Cutlers Relays), with the first SRC teams in 29th (womens) and 27th (mens) place.
Our M55 team came 5th at the BMAF Cross Country Championships, only 20 seconds off the medals.
Due to other commitments, SRC didn’t get teams out for the Manchester Uni XC Relays, or a M35 British Masters Relays team. However, a small group went on a PB attempt at Rother Valley parkrun, with a new PB for Ben Mahoney. Sian Dickinson also broke her parkrun PB at Poolsbrook parkun.
Rachel Miller was 4th lady at Jedburgh Running Festival in a new 10K PB of 42:33.
Gemma Williamson knocked 12 minutes from her half marathon PB, running 2hours 6minutes at Worksop Half Marathon.
The second South Yorkshire Cross Country took place at Winter Hill, Kimberworth, with 6th place for Deborah Richards, and 8th place for Matt Craig.
