Our training nights are every Tuesday and Thursday evening from EIS (English Institute of Sport). In addition there is a track session at the Woodbourn Road track every Monday, and hill training in Wharncliffe Woods near Oughtibridge every Saturday morning.

Twice a year we run a 9 week Learn2Run programme for absolute beginners, culminating in a 5km parkrun and the opportunity to join the club.

Tuesday training sessions are structured so that no one is left behind and no one is made to feel like they aren’t achieving. Groups are flexible and you can move up and down on a weekly basis.

Running with other runners at a like pace enables you to learn how to hang in with the group, experience the camaraderie whilst on the run, gain endurance strength from the pace and length of the runs, gain confidence that you are able to train on your own at such a pace and eventually at a quicker pace as running fitness improves.

Thursdays

Thursdays are our speed/interval sessions. This incorporates ‘speed endurance’ and ‘interval training’ on specific circuits and caters for all abilities. The session lasts for approximately 1 hour.

Benefits include being able to increase your pace with the ‘speed play’ and quality repetitions, learning how to handle running at an intense and quicker pace over short distances, gaining speed strength when done on a consistent basis; as a result, you will be ready and able to incorporate these elements into races and overcome any discomfort that running at speed produces.

For the Learn-2-Run graduates and runners predominantly around the 10-12 minute per mile pace, the focus is more on using intervals to build endurance as the bridge between normal paced running and speed endurance.

Where do we meet?

Meet in the main cafe at English Institute of Sport, Coleridge Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S9 5DA. Most of the runs are done on the roads around Attercliffe. During the winter months, we ask that all runners wear reflective clothing.

What time do we meet

6.15pm prompt – be there for 6.00pm for any announcements

How much does it cost?

This session is free

If you want to use the changing rooms / showers there is a £2.50 charge at reception.

Mile Time Trials
Twice a year the club run a “mile time trial” where you run as fast as you can around a track for a mile. Everyone gets a certificate stating their mile time trial time.

Saturdays

On a Saturday there is a hill session in Wharncliffe Woods near Oughtibridge.

Learn how to run hills and not be afraid of them during races, gain speed strength, endurance strength, leg strength and all round running ability.

Where do we meet?

The hill sessions are in Wharncliffe Woods, Oughtibridge. Meet on Platts Lane (Off Oughtibridge Lane). This is a concrete road and has a works sign that states “Intermet”.

Please park your car in the parking bays / road side / housing estate roads on the hill just past Oughtibridge Park on Oughtibridge Lane. Then walk / jog / run up the hill to the meeting point on the concrete road leading to the woods. Do not park on the grass verge or the residential road above Platts Lane (the actual concrete road) as it upsets local residents.

What time do we meet

We meet at 10.00am (sharp – otherwise you will miss the session!)

How much does it cost?

The session is free

Sundays

Many of our members meet each other for informal Sunday runs which are often announced on our Facebook group or arranged during other training sessions.
